Popularity has also increased thanks to technological developments that have allowed much higher success rates and shorter recovery times. But, what is an FUE hair transplant?
How does an FUE hair transplant work?
Simply put, this procedure involves transplanting hair follicles from one area of the body to another. This may sound complicated, but it is actually a relatively simple process. But, how exactly does it work?
Hair follicles grow in groups of 1-4 hairs, commonly known as grafts. Hair transplants obtained from your donor area are resistant to a hormone that is thought to cause hair loss. Therefore, when your surgeon transplants these implants in the recipient area, they maintain resistance to this hormone. During an FUE hair transplant, a surgeon will usually transplant anywhere between 500 and 5000 transplants.

You and your doctor will discuss hair restoration treatment together. This is an opportunity to discuss what coverage you hope the surgery will achieve. Your doctor will decide based on the quality and quantity of hair in your donor area. Once you have both spoken, your doctor will show you what the beginning of your new hairline will be.
Preparing for surgery
You are now ready to start with an FUE hair transplant. You will receive a local anesthetic from the treatment team that will numb the head during surgery.
What should I expect from an FUE hair transplant?
Once you are doing hair restoration treatment, you should see gradual hair growth in your previously bald or thinned area. The following is a brief overview of what to expect and when after an FUE hair transplant.
During these weeks you may begin to see what is known as shock loss. Again, do not worry about that! It occurs in 95% of FUE hair transplant cases and is a natural, transient response to hair restoration treatment. Your hair will gradually recover and grow back after that.
Your hair growth can be quite slow between the second and fourth months after your treatment, with typical growth being around 5%. However, between the fourth and sixth month, you should begin to notice that about 20% -25% of your newly transplanted hair begins to grow.
Between the sixth and ninth month, your transplanted hair should reach a growth rate of about 75%. Along with this growth, you may also notice that your new hair is getting thicker. After the ninth month, your transplanted hair should continue to grow, usually the last 25%. However, it is worth noting that in some cases it may take up to 18 months after surgery for complete hair restoration in the area of your scalp.
