Hair Transplant Procedure As hair loss problem is getting more common day by day, people seek solutions. Lots of people try products that prevent hair loss or promote hair growth. However, those may not be enough, and may not provide a permanent solution. So, thanks to the innovations in medicine, this problem can be fixed with a hair transplant now.
What is Hair Transplant
Hair transplant is a surgical operation that restores the patient’s hair. It is a safe and easy procedure. In a hair transplant procedure, the specialists transplant the healthy follicles from the donor area to the recipient area.
Who can get a Hair Transplant?
Basically, anyone can get a hair transplant. However, we recommend that one should not get one until he/she is at least 25 years old. The reason for that is, hair loss tends to stop or slow down at that age. Even if it does not stop, it can be predicted how it will continue. So, if you get a hair transplant at an early age, you may need additional operations in the future.
Another important point is, the patient needs to have enough hair to transplant. The specialists generally use the back of the scalp as the donor area. If you do not have enough hair there, then the follicles can be taken from other parts of the body. Those parts include the chest, back and genital area. It is not possible to transplant hair from a person to another.
Is Hair Transplant Painful?
The specialists apply a local anaesthetic before starting the hair transplant procedure. Or if you want, you can ask for sedation. So, you do not feel any pain during the procedure. Also, the specialist will prescribe you painkillers and other necessary medications. Consequently, you will not feel much discomfort in the postoperative period as well.
Are Hair Transplants Permanent?
As stated above, the specialists harvest the follicles from the back of the scalp to transplant them. The hair in this area is so durable that, they do not fall out even if the person is too old. So, when you transplant them into the balded area, they stay there for a lifetime.
Hair Transplant Consultation
Before getting a hair transplant, you can get a consultation appointment. During this appointment, the specialist will analyze your hair. He/she may also take photos that you can use for comparison after the procedure. In the consultation, you can ask whatever you want about the operation to the specialist. Do not hesitate. You can also discuss what you should expect from the operation and prices. Expert Hair Transplant
How is the Hair Transplant Procedure?
Before a hair transplant procedure, there are certain things you should avoid. Those include some beverages, smoking, and some drugs. Consummation of those things can cause some complications during the operation like bleeding.
The procedure starts with the application of the local anaesthetic. The specialist will numb your scalp, so you will not feel any pain during the operation. Then, the specialists harvest the follicles from the donor area, which is generally the back of the scalp. The harvesting method changes depending on the technique that is used.
There are two main hair transplant techniques; FUE and FUT. In an FUE procedure, the specialists harvest and transplant the follicles one by one. It takes some time, but it gives the best results. Transplanting the follicles individually enables the specialists to distribute them evenly. Therefore, the most natural look of hair can be achieved.
In a FUT procedure, the specialists cut a strip of skin from the donor area. They divide this strip into smaller pieces, each containing 2-8 follicles. We call those pieces “grafts”. Then, they insert those grafts into small cuts they open in the recipient area. As the grafts contain multiple follicles, the FUT procedure takes less time. However, due to the incision, it leaves a scar on the donor area.
When the transplantation ends, the specialists cover the operated area with bandages. So, the procedure ends.
What should the Patient Do after getting a Hair Transplant?
The postoperative period of a hair transplant is as important as the operation itself. After the operation, you should be very careful, and follow the specialist’s instructions.
There are certain things that you should care for. For example, you should protect your head from direct sunlight. For a while, you should not go swimming. So as not to cause any infections, you should not touch or scratch the operated area.
You can wash your hair three days after the operation. While washing, you should be very careful and gentle. We recommend you to use a non-scented shampoo, and a paper towel to dry your head. Using harsh towels or hairdryer can damage the transplanted follicles. You may see that some scabs form on the operated area. You should not pick them. Washing your hair regularly will help them fall off in a week.
After getting a hair transplant, you may see some swelling in the operated area. To make the swelling go off quicker, you can change your sleeping position. If you sleep in a semi-sitting position, your head will always stay higher than your body. That will help the swelling go down faster. Also, you can place some pillows around your head to prevent traumas like hitting your head to the wood or metal parts of the bed. 4 Days After Hair Transplant
Hair Transplant Costs
When you decide to get a hair transplant, one of the most important things that you should consider is the cost. The costs can change in each hospital and in each region. Also, the extent of the operation is an important factor. Small costs like transportation, accommodation, anaesthetic cost, medications can cost a lot too when they are totalled. Unfortunately, health insurance plans do not cover hair transplantation as it is cosmetic surgery. So, you should calculate everything beforehand. If the total number is too high for you, you can ask for financing plans. To find out more about our prices, you can contact us.
