How Successful Is A FUE Hair Transplant?

How Successful Is A FUE Hair Transplant? Thousands of our patients in the last two decades have had successful hair transplants. With the developing technology standards, the success rate in hair transplantation has increased. In your opinion, “How successful is a FUE hair transplant?” Let’s learn together.

How successful is a FUE hair transplant?

Implant survival rates

The next issue in most people’s minds is graft survival. Studies have shown that about 85-95% of all implanted hairs will grow in the transplant area. Some patients are also afraid of transplant rejection, as with organ transplantation. However, this fear is unfounded, because the hair follicles are “donated” by your body, so they will not be rejected. However, these cases are quite rare.

Natural appearance

That said, the surgeon must consider many factors to ensure a natural appearance. Angles, colors, textures, directions, and diameters should match the patient’s existing hair. Also, the natural curve of the hairline should be taken into account, as well as the age-appropriate hairline. It is also possible to repair the appearance of doll-like “plugs” from previous procedures, to give a completely natural look.

When we receive a “complaint”, patients usually wish that the density was higher after a single operation. By density, we mean how “thick” the total hair on the head looks. This is because the blood supply to the scalp will only support a given number of implants.

The results you should expect after an FUE hair transplant

  • We stay in touch with all our patients during this period to help them understand what to expect. At this stage, this is common and not a cause for concern.
  • The full results of the FUE procedure may not be visible for nine, twelve, or even eighteen months.
  • Again, every patient is different – and there is always some variation in new hair growth. But here is a typical description of the results you can expect at different stages.

Reasons Hair transplants can fail

There are several factors that can cause hair transplant failure, such as:

  • Improper handling of implants: One of the most common mistakes that an inexperienced surgeon can make is improper handling of implants.
  • Inappropriate candidate: Although hair transplants are a great solution for bald men and women, not all candidates are suitable. Some people have thinning hair but are not yet ready for a hair transplant. In addition, hair transplantation does not cure medical or genetic conditions such as lupus and certain types of alopecia.
  • Poor Postoperative Care: After your treatment, your doctor will give you detailed instructions on how to care for your new hair transplants. Scratching your scalp as it heals can cause graft loss and even infection
  • Dishonest Clinical Hair Transplant Practices: Some clinics perform dishonest, even illegal, procedures.

First week

In your first week, you will heal. You may see some redness and irritation in the area where the implant was made, but this heals quickly in the vast majority of patients.

Most of our patients returned to normal life within a few days.

One to three weeks

Redness and irritation will subside during this period. The immediate healing process becomes slower for some patients than others.

For about 10 days, all the cuttings should be firmly in place and it will be safe to continue the usual shower and shampooing habits.

One to three months

During this period, it is perfectly normal not to see any change – or worse, to notice that hair is falling out faster than before. You may feel that your hair looks even thinner than before the procedure.

This can be annoying, but it’s all part of the process. What happens is that the hair follicles, after being immobilized for a while in the process of extraction and implantation, come to life again.

As they do, they push the old, pre-existing hairs so they can start growing new ones. That’s why you notice some hair loss.

Three to six months

This is where the initial development period usually begins. The first new hairs that come in maybe unusually thin and fine, or they may have a lighter or no color at all – again, this is not a cause for concern. The subsequent hair growth will be thicker and more important.

It is also not uncommon for hair growth to be heterogeneous and uneven at first. This is because the follicles may have been implanted at different times in their growth cycle, so they will heal and grow at different rates.

During this period, you may notice some red spots on your scalp that look like acne. These may be unpleasant, but they are actually a good sign – that means they are trying to get new hair. Some new hairs can get stuck under your skin, like hair that has grown back, causing red spots.

Six to nine months

This usually happens when you need to start noticing more substantial results, as your hair follicles heal and the growth begins to become fuller, thicker, and closer to their normal color.

The rate of growth may depend on the technique used by your surgeon and how successful each implant was. This is the reason why our surgeon performs each implant by hand – to ensure the best results for each patient.

In our clinic, we usually see about 60% to 80% of new hair growth around the beginning of this period – starting in the semester. However, this can vary greatly depending on the patient and the technique used to implant the implants.

Nine to twelve months

On average, most patients see about 90% of their new growth during this period.

Twelve to 18 months

For some patients, new hair may continue to enter during this period. Also, the texture and color of your hair may continue to change as your hair follicles find their new rhythm.

How successful is a FUE hair transplant? It is extremely common for hair to fall out at the beginning, grow into broken hair, and take a year or more to see full results. The experience you have depends on your follicles and there are no two patients who are exactly the same.
